(Maid-sama!, The Student Council President is a Maid!)
Some reviews make it look bad when it's really not.
Plot/Story-9.5/10
Animation/Design-10/10
Characters-9/10
Audio/Soundtrack-8/10
Misaki Ayuzawa is the student council president of Seika High. She is strict, especially to the boys in her school, due to the school previously being all-girls. Now that it has become co-ed, there are more and more male students, who are always getting into trouble. Particularly, Usui Takumi. Usui is constantly found breaking girls' hearts, not on purpose, but since so many girls have a crush on him and he has to reject them. Misaki has a little secret she would never want anyone to know; her part-time job. Misaki works as a maid at a restaurant called 'Maid Latte.' One night, as she is taking out the trash at the back of the building, Usui happens to be walking by and spots her. Watch this funny ship unfold as Usui takes the role of a daily customer at Maid Latte.
The anime doesn't have too much of a progressing plot. I'd call it kind of wholesome, but if you imagine a typical romantic comedy with no plot, this anime is really no different. Needless to say, if ur looking for a lotta drama maid-sama probably isn't the one, since most of the episodes are just different situations that resolve by the end of the episode. The parts that are supposed to be romantic are obviously intended for an audience that is on the younger side, same with the comedy. I say this because the episodes get repetitive; Misaki is always shutting out Usui, and Usui is always saving the day, blah blah blah. At the same time, you can't blame Misaki. Given her situation, it makes sense she's acting this way. She has a family she basically has to take care of, and her part-time job is for her familys' debts. Misaki most-likely wants to focus on school & work. Although it is obvious she develops a crush on Usui lol.
Design on the characters fit their roles & personalities, and animation is great for 2010, but ofc this isn't action so I can't really say much about it.
When it comes to the main characters, I feel like we could have had a little more background on Usui's past, but again, that adds to the mysteriousness. For Misaki, we know that her father left the family which leaves her, her sister, and her mother alone with large debts. I'm not going to say much about this, but the writing does dive deep into a characters backstory that wasn't even in the anime for that long. If we are talking about the personalities of the characters, it feels as if Usui literally has no weaknesses lmao. Or any time that he failed at annoying or flustering Misaki, and we can never rlly guess what he's thinking. Again, I do think that's a part of his character as a whole. I hear some ppl say that Misaki is 'always mad' and things like that, but they must have not finished watching or didn't pay attention.
I love the Japanese voice actors for this one. Fits the characters perfectly. However, the English dub was a hit and miss for me. IMO. It seems like the va for Misaki (and since she's the mc I cannot let this go) sounded older than a highschool student? Idk, it just felt weird watching it with the eng dub. I wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way, because that's the main reason why I didn't watch Maid-sama! dubbed. Try out the dub for yourself, but I think that the va for Misaki didn't do well with sounding like a hs student. When it comes to background music and setting the mood, that was done pretty well. There's this one scene I'm thinking about which I won't spoil, but let's just say it sounded like it was well-thought out about how the background music changes the mood.
-I have to admit, the age range goes no farther than around 16 years old, since I mentioned how Maid-sama is pretty immature.
-I have heard some people mention that this anime is sexist. If you're calling Maid-sama! sexist, you haven't seen sexist. cough the wallflower cough (dont get me wrong i luved it tho)
-As expected, there are a lot of fans wondering why there was no season 2; if u search it up, the developers didn't want to make a season 2 because there was not much of an audience in Japan.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama has an acceptable plot, okay characters, great audio, but isn't perfect (no anime is perfect). Suitable for pre-teens to teens ig. Despite whatever negative i said about this anime, it's an unforgettable one imo. I've got a poster and a sticker and a gallery full of screenshots. Okay maybe I'm just weird. Anyways, think what you will about this anime, but the most important thing is that you give it a try. I honestly thought "tf is this maid waifu shit" before watching it lmaooo. Also, don't watch a rom-com and give it a bad review if you don't like rom-coms. That's just being a frog butt.
