A Japanese singer and songwriter who helped pioneer the style of Japanese adult-oriented rock/soft rock dubbed "city pop." Mariya Takeuchi has produced the majority of her music since the '70s. She is well known for interpreting "Plastic Love", contributing to the revival in interest in the City Pop genre in recent years.
Takeuchi is one of the most commercially successful Japanese solo artists in the history of the Japanese album chart, having sold over 16 million records, and has received several accolades. She is the oldest singer to have achieved a No. 1 single.
