Masutatsu Oyama, more commonly known as Mas Oyama, was born Choi Yeong-eu. He was a karate master who founded Kyokushin Karate, considered the first and most influential style of full contact karate. As a Zainichi Korean, he spent most of his life living in Japan and acquired Japanese citizenship in 1968.
Masutatsu Oyama is also known as 大山倍達, Mas Oyama (マス大山), Choi Yeong-eu (さいえいぎ、チェ・ヨンウィ、최영의).
