In October 2019, he revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In February 2023, he posted on his blog an update to his condition, in which he is no longer able to move his arms or legs and was given a tracheotomy, losing his ability to speak (announcing his retirement from voice acting) but can still communicate with digital voice software.
