I started following anime at some forgotten point in the early-to-mid 2010s. I remember when "Isekai" was a new term in the west, if that's any indication. I'm most concerned with plot, design and direction, in no particular order. I'm generally open to Mecha, Mahou Shoujou and general Sci-fi or Fantasy titles, while I eschew watching Romance, Shounen, Sports and Slice-of-life. With, of course, exceptions on both sides.
Though I'm rather harsh when it comes to deciding when to drop things - having previously done so inside of five minutes - I try to go into every anime expecting it to be good (since obviously if it looks bad, I don't bother trying it at all). So, my ratings are best thought of as measures of how satisfied or disappointed I was:
8-10 - Good to excellent. Well-written, creative and expressing meaningful ideas in a stylish manner. Would gladly watch again at any time and easily worth recommending.
6/7 - Passable. Either has no particular issues, but also lacks anything special, or ranges in quality but with the strengths just about outweighing the weaknesses. Unlikely to rewatch unless doing so as part of a larger franchise or with friends, and wouldn't immediately come to mind to recommend.
4/5 - Forgettable. Sometimes it's the case that several major flaws sour an otherwise inoffensive experience, but usually it's just that there's nothing particularly interesting or unique to think about. Very unlikely to rewatch and wouldn't recommend at any point.
1-3 - Varying degrees of terrible. Ranges from just a simple waste of time to downright infiuriating.
My "vanilla" Completed list records all items, regardless of type or significance, while my "Completed Major" list edits this down to a version far simpler to navigate, cutting out MVs, specials, bonus unaired episodes, etc. My Planning list is likewise split in order to group shows by length, as I find that to be one of the key elements in deciding what to watch next.
All my dropped items have a short label roughly categorising the main reason for quitting them rather than a more detailed review. My ratings are based on how much of each I've seen up until that point, though I fully believe some get much better and just as many get far worse after the fact.
