The Sword of the Wizard King film opens after the season-four Magic Knights arc and resets the stakes. Four banished Wizard Kings of the past — exiled centuries ago for reasons the current Magic Parliament prefers not to discuss — have escaped their containment and returned to the capital to dismantle the modern kingdom. Asta, still without inheritable magic, is the only person the four of them did not budget for. The film runs roughly the manga's standalone arc: the Wizard Kings' campaign, the Magic Knights' counter-deployment, and Asta's slow recognition of what an inherited title means when the holders are still alive.
