Walpurgisnacht: Rising is the official sequel to the Rebellion film and the franchise's first new entry in over a decade. The current state of Madoka Kaname's world — the equilibrium Homura broke and reshaped at the end of Rebellion — has held for an unknown period, and the film opens on the next crack in it. The witch Walpurgisnacht, which the original series treated as the final boss, is reforming on a horizon nobody in the cast can quite see. The film is the next round of Madoka, Homura, and the magical-girl economy the original franchise built and dismantled.
