Meiko has won a place at the country's most exclusive girls' high school as a scholarship transfer from her rural prefecture. The scholarship covers tuition, dorm fees, and meals, and the fine print specifies the corresponding work-experience requirement: a year of live-in shift work at the school's affiliated manga café. Meiko's new home is a half-private booth on the seventh floor of the café tower.
