At eleven, Arima Kousei was the most decorated child pianist in the country. At thirteen, he watched his mother — also his teacher — die in long, slow pain that he had nothing to do with but could not stop blaming himself for. The next time he sat at a piano in public, he could not hear the notes he was playing. Two years later, Kousei lives in monochrome until a violinist named Miyazono Kaori detonates her way into his quiet life. Her playing breaks every rule he was raised on, and she insists that he accompany her.
