It is said that there are 10 million people who enjoy fishing as a sport or leisure, and the process is said to have a "peculiar charm." The main character, Tanaka, works for a local bank and is a big fishing fanatic. He is such a fishing fanatic that he calls himself "a lover of the carp." Our story begins when he was invited to go fishing by a group of friends at the local pharmacy.
