I'm sitting at my desk eating some microwaved spaghetti topped with tons of parmesan cheese and the flavor of juicy meat sauce and the soft and slippery noodles whilst watching FLCL
I have tomato sauce on my white shirt and I don't care
this is the ultimate show on enjoying things cause you enjoy them and trying to delve further does lead to an interesting analysis of shows whether it comes to characters, cinematography, and general storytelling but there's always a bedrock to every analysis that doesn't impede further introspection but rather it's a casual reminder to just enjoy these things without the pressure
I love my introspective sci-fi shows but I also like seeing a kid get slammed into with a Vespa or seeing a robot jam his way out of his brain, swallow him up, and then proceed to crap him out all the while going for groceries
obviously, the show's massive chaos of adolescence cesspool themes of growing up and interpersonal relationships with a healthy amount of sexual symbolism and falik imagery BUT you don't really need to introspect on that to understand that FLCL is just a really cool show paired to the most insane rock track by the Pillows most of the lyrics which are just gobbled together phrases which sound awesome.
Orange slide, the sky that it reflects Sponge's pride, being dangled
Spider The apprehension that was caught alive It's okay even if I don't hide it I want to have colored dreams
Ride on shooting star With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun I kept on singing
Grunge hamster, be grown up Lobster of revenge, bring it along
Sniper I'll say, "What can you see In that fringed world?" I want to touch it before I aim for it
Ride on shooting star Searching for you, and in withdrawal syndrome I told a lie
Ride on shooting star With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun I kept on singing

utterly ridiculous but ultimately rewarding and enjoyable despite the confusing as fuck plotlines that have you questioning whether the creators should be locked into a mental hospital
but at the same time, the animation in FOoly COoly is not just technically impressive but creatively amazing to watch as if the entire ova is just a sandbox of ideas the creators could just pull out of their head seriously for every second of any other show you might watch FLCL manages a rate of wildly prolific inventive spectacles of sheer stupid coolness
and just how FLCL manages to be so poignantly awesome within a short five-episode OVA series which perfectly nails it home I also think this review should be similar to that effect.
