Story
The story starts with a slice of life touch and grows into the battle shounen which dragon ball is known for. We get to see likeable new characters, foreshadowing, decent plot, good soundtracks and all you need from a show. Especially, a realistic and story driven character development. Also, it's not the good guys winning all the time. That cliche take will be less in this show. There are funny moments one can enjoy. It's a solid all in one package. Some of the outcomes of the battles are controversial. But, when you think of them from a realistic standpoint considering the world building done by the franchise, it'll all feel pretty convincing. Good guys may not win all the time and might take the fall sometimes. That's just how the world works.

Even with all of these, the adaptation falls short on being loyal to the source material. Some of the crucial scenes are cut short or removed from the source material and the blood spilling fights does not exist in this show. However, some of the extra additions/scenes (especially in the T.O.P. Arc) is very well crafted and the show also takes alternate directions when it comes to some of the plot points from the source material. Although I don't appreciate most of them, some are better choices.
Characters
Characters and their progression is realistic. In short, I'd say that to each, their own path. You'll feel connected to most of them in some way. The struggles and ambitions of each characters are different and it is very well portrayed in the show.

Rushed Production
Toei Animation couldn't care less about this franchise. The heavily rushed production is projected throughout the show. You can see inconsistent animation quality and pacing issues at times. But, they pulled through with the T.O.P. Arc. It is by far the best Arc ever came out from the dragon ball world.

World Building
World building has always been a highlight of dragon ball and this show doesn't forget that. There's enough lore to keep the curiosity about the franchise going.

Tip
If you plan to watch this show, I highly recommend checking the source material afterwards to know the differences in choices and a better version of the story except the T.O.P. Arc. You can also find out what comes after the show concludes on episode 131.
