Hello there!
Quite new to experiencing stories' critically, so my Anilist would be rather empty even though I have watched and a decent bit of anime/manga.
Explaining My Scores
In a story, all I usually look at with critical eyes are the themes: how well they are told, and if it says anything interesting. For storytelling, I take a look at if it expresses its idea with enough subtext, subtelty and necessary character-work for the characters who are important for the theme. The themes don't necesarily have to be interesting, but if it is not, then the storytelling has to make up for it, thus they it would be much more difficult for them to be rated as much as shows whose ideas are interesting.
Of course, if minor aspects such as prose/art/animation are terrible, then it will drag down everything else. All I require though, is for those minor things to be at least passable or invisible. I don't look at them critically like I do storytelling and characters.
Whether or not I felt emotional in the story does not have much effect on how I rate things. Which is why, even though I love Vagabond, I do not rate it a ten.
10: The Highest tier of fiction. Very, very special rating and I hardly rate anything a ten.
9: Masterpiece of art. Chances are, the story does not have any actual flaws and is brilliant in everything it does, but it does not match the standards for a ten.
8: Thematically rich, with stunning characters- everything that I would ask for in a great story. If it is on the higher end of the spectrum, I might even consider it a masterpiece. Every story this rating or higher would be one of my favourites, writing-wise at least.
7: Ditto what I said for 8s, only that a flaw drags it down/does not match the standard of an 8.
For stories' 6 and below, I do not care.
