Usually.

I'm not active on Anilist anymore for the same reason I'm not active on other social media.
Life's too short to waste it on mediocre gratification. Twitter, Reddit, etc. - I've quit all of them. I'm trying to un-fuck my attention span and get my life back. Instead of defaulting to browsing social media, which is cheap and unrewarding, I want to spend more time on the things I genuinely love doing.
That includes writing. It's why I've been reluctant to delete my Anilist account, which contains some writing I don't want to let go of. That's why I might swing by from time to time and post some of my writings on anime, both here and on my sporadically-updated blog, Memory Cafe: https://memorycafe.substack.com/archive.
As both my personal and professional life have been moving forward at alarming speeds, I've been reevaluating how I want to spend my time, and that's been an important moral caffeination for me.

Who Am I?:

I'm a small town fellow with a love for tech, education, and problem solving. I was lucky enough to get accepted to an eclectic range of prestigious schools in New England, like Harvard and Yale. I eventually decided to go to Stanford and study CS and AI. Now, I'm undertaking a small Silicon Valley gig. Though personally, my true, true passions lie with both games and anime.
As such, if you have any questions for me about anime, games, computer science, applying for college, Stanford life, landing a successful CS internship, etc., please feel free to message me! I promise I'll respond as soon as I get the chance. I'm always happy to chat and/or help someone out.

On Follows:

I have follow notifications turned off. So if you follow me and I don't follow back, I am sorry. Please do not interpret it as a personal rejection, I just straight up didn't know.
However, if you follow me or engage with me not because you want a follow-back, but because you have a genuine interest in what I have to say, then I am extremely grateful. To that small subset of Anilist users that see value in my words - thank you.
My Rating Philosophy:

Public fussing about the scores you assign to media is probably harming your relationship with art.
People like to rate media because it's easy, and it's nice to curate a list that reflects your identity, personality, and values. But the truth is you don't need scores to do any of this - all you need is some introspection and a pen.
Ask yourself - why do I assign numbers to media? If you have to stop and think about it, if your immediate answer isn't, "Because it's fun" then I beg of you - next time you watch an anime you really love, instead of rating it, try writing about what it is that you love about it.
You don't have to publish it, you don't have to be good at writing, you don't have to write a lot. Just write. What you will get is a far more potent and fulfilling experience than rating could ever give you. It's the most expressive way of sorting out your feelings. Your writing becomes a memoir from your past self, ensuring that your emotions from that time will never die.
The score becomes redundant - the script explains itself.
