★★★★★ (98-100) = Unique works that swirl the imagination and give a strong insight on the potential of the medium, conveying many, unexpected parts of human culture in a profound, archetypal mood and a unique worldview. Having left a great track in my thoughts, my identity, and my aesthetic conceptions, these works are perfect for many rewatches over the years. Beyond the masterpieces, beyond their medium, gods of my pantheon.
★★★★½ (88-95) = Absolute, original masterpieces. Very complete, they overcome genre conventions and recontextualize clichés in a brilliant way, with universal messages and a brave attitude to break expectations. Aside of minutiae, their only flaw is to not have the same outstanding rigour and/or the same uniqueness of the highest tier. The profoundness of these animes makes me think about them even many months or years after the watching experience and that makes these products perfect for some rewatches/rereadings over the years.
★★★★ (78-85) = Brilliant, solid cults that refresh their genres, leading them into new horizons, however these animes have a few but remarkable flaws due to a little bit of unnecessary repetitiveness, technical problems and/or some pointless clichés that smooth out their potential peak of profoundness, restricting their "authority" as masterpieces only in their own genres (still, hats off to them), even when they try to have a deeper breath. The many-sidedness and the polished balance of quality between the episodes make still these animes great in general and well-suited for some rewatches over the years.
★★★½ (68-75) = Good and fun, some fresh iterations of their respective genres because they have some new mixtures of subgenres and/or a few new ideas etc that make them products with a recognizable personality even though is often immature and/or lacks courage and ambitions. Despite the fickleness, the recurring ripetitiveness and/or the frequent lack of true originality of these products, their merits are enough to classify them as works by profession, satisfying and very useful to understand and enjoy the various nuances and history of their genres, except if they waste a clear potential to be way better but still these animes could be considered satisfying If you do the right thing to don't give too much weight to that. These problems (especially the ripetitiveness) make these animes not well-suited for rewatches, except if I find a random pretext to rewatch them, like in case I didn't understand something in the first watch and I want to try to reevaluate some of them.
★★★ (60-65) = Nice, some passable homeworks that do the indispensable, but don't go beyond that, because they are quite amateurish, repetitive and/or uninspired, they have low ambitions, struggle to have a personality, express it with few interesting ideas and/or with many interesting ideas developped in a clumsy, unaware and/or pretentious way, these products are well suited for "stainless" fans of these genres who could enjoy and rate more some of these works. If you aren't one of them, I personally recommend to give little priority to these animes in your personal schedule but not to avoid them. It's very unlikely that I will rewatch these works, because I normally want to prioritize the discovery (or, less likely, rediscovery) of works that could give me more emotions and/or new notions and the time is not eternal, but still this possibility is always open, especially if I want to try to reevaluate some of them.
★★½ (48-55) = Mediocre, insufficient animes that flow nicely but leave me indifferent, they have only few interesting ideas or have a nice amount of interesting ideas but are too long in proportion to their content, moderately boring, full of technical problems and/or full of cringe parts. Like the other insufficient tiers, I personally recommend to watch these products only if you have already started them and you want to finish them because you are a perfectionist, if you have time on your hands and you want to "see firsthand" in order to form your idea, if you want to understand a phenomenon, learn a few good ideas and/or understand what art shouldn't be.
★★ (38-45) = Bad and barely fluid animes, could be mildly boring or be very tedious whether they are too long, full of cringe and/or awful parts but, at least, they have some cute ideas are still quite watchable, but watchable means do go on by inertia, still that's not funny. The main difference with 2.5 stars is that they are wasted potential, 2 stars look like a failure almost immediately, having main flaws from the start.
★½ (28-35) = Terrible and difficult to watch even when they are brief, in general they are very boring and/or written so badly that they make me angry, but still there have a few, cute ideas and/or technical qualities that save something, however you have to dig very deeply to find these qualities and they are pretty negligible and insubstantial, like some clean cherries over a pile of crap.
★ (18-25) = Horrible, they are almost empty of substance and entertainment, seriously challenging to watch. We could only find merits with a magnifying glass. If 1.5 stars could have a gleam of entertainment, these products are truly painful to watch or so wrong that while watching, i'm not in the right emotional state to care about the flow, being completely alienated by the problems.
½ (8-15) = Wrong and shameful animes that embody what art shouldn’t be, lacking of personality, substance and almost everything, a waste of time and culturally potentially harmful except if regarded as an admonition and a instructive experience about the horrid and about total pneumatic vacuum.
