Anime-related facts:
-been watching anime since 2021. First got super into it in 2022.
-my gateways: Voltron Legendary Defender (non-anime), the Avatar franchise (also non-anime), Star Wars Visions, Silent Voice, Evangelion, and Saiki K.
-usually watch English dubs (two big reasons I'd watch subbed is if a dub doesn't exist, or the dub is apparently really bad)
-My taste in waifus: Misato Katsuragi, Mai Sakurajima, Nia Teppelin, Koko Kaga, Yuri Koigakubo, Sheska, Otae Shimura (I'm a masochist).
-I'm not gay, but if I was: Kensuke Aida, Simon the Digger, Toshiro Hijikata
Here's my (loose) grading scale (I use .5 decimals more and go up to 100 for reviews but this is the general idea):
10: Mastahpeece (the rarest of the rare)
9: Most Outstanding (Rufus)
8: Great/Most Excellent (adventure)
7: Good (the sweet spot to be in)
6: Just good enough (OK)
5: Eh/meh/whatever/I don't care/fine I guess?/serviceable, don't really know how to feel, etc.
4: Below average/fairly bad
3: Bad. Plain and simple.
2: Why
1: Ugh
0: bruh
I don't review movies on here unless they really mean a lot to me. For fuller reviews on anime films, check out my Letterboxd: link .
I try to judge things based on a mix of enjoyment and critical lens. I believe there's two "strict" disciplines when it comes to rating something: a critical lens, and the enjoyment lens. Both are separate, but that also means I want to try and combine the two, taking both into account, so as to reach a verdict of what the "true" score is then, factoring that.
My gateway into things that were anime-esque was Voltron: Legendary Defender, back in middle school (I'm that one guy who actually liked seasons 7 & 8, lol). Then in 2019, I watched Avatar: the Last Airbender (yeah, that's right. I watched it a year BEFORE it got its 2nd wave of popularity on netflix in 2020. Uptop fellaz). The first anime I ever properly watched was the Star Wars Visions anthology (2021).
2022 was the year I went "welp, guess I'm a weeb now." Watched and obsessed over Evangelion in May of that year, and the rest is history. So much anime to watch, so little time (college, getting a job, driving, planning your goals, scheduling, all that life stuff).
Genres I'm most drawn to:
-mecha
-action
-slice-of-life
-comedy (but y'know, the REALLY good ones. Like Gintama and Saiki K., basically)
-romance (again, the good ones)
Genres I'm not most drawn to:
-isekai
-battle shonen (unless they're cream of the crop shonen)
-ecchi (unless it's no-BS vanilla)
