Mafuyu Satou carries a Gibson guitar to high school every morning and never seems to play it. The strings are rusted, broken, and unreplaced for a year — the guitar was someone else's, and the someone else is dead. Ritsuka Uenoyama, the guitarist in a small after-school band, finds Mafuyu on a stairwell and is annoyed enough by the state of the instrument to fix it and start teaching. Mafuyu's voice, when he finally lets the band hear it, rewrites everyone's plan for the year. The series follows the band's first paid gig and the grief Mafuyu has been carrying through every rehearsal.
