Josee to Tora to Sakanatachi
Tsuneo Suzukawa is a marine-biology graduate student saving for a study trip to Mexico. Josee — a young woman with no use of her legs — lives with the grandmother who has kept her largely indoors for the entire twenty-something years of her life. The two meet by accident when Tsuneo intervenes in a runaway wheelchair down a hilltop street, and Josee's grandmother hires him as her daily caretaker. The film is the short, quiet season the two of them spend going to the sea Josee has not been allowed to look at, and the much longer reckoning they each have after.
