Byousoku 5 Centimeter
Five Centimeters per Second is told in three short pieces stitched together. In the first, grade-schoolers Takaki Tono and Akari Shinohara are inseparable until Akari's family moves three prefectures away and Takaki's family announces a move of its own. He boards a snowed-in train to see her one last time. In the second, set years later in a southern island town, a classmate's unspoken crush on Takaki goes nowhere. In the third, both of them are working adults in Tokyo who pass each other at a railway crossing and almost — almost — turn around in time.
At what speed must I live…to be able to see you again?
