FYI, I rate and comment a lot, but not everything is up-to-date, esp stuff I watched when younger. I am honestly fairly picky, so peruse at your own discretion.

How I got into this hobby:
Spoiler, click to viewclick to hide
As a wee lad, I watched stuff on TV, like Pokemon, Digimon, Medabots, and Cardcaptor Sakura. Gradually, my family got some box sets, so I watched Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Great Teacher Onizuka, Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, and Hunter x Hunter in that rough order. Of these, HxH 1999 was the first one that made me really love it. I was about 10 ish and even recall looking up fanfics since it was on hiatus. In middle school, I got into more manga like One Piece and other shonen too. Later, in high school, I watched and read more, even making a MyAnimeList, though I didn't use it much at the time. Finally, in college, I joined the anime club to make friends and got deeper into the hobby, even going to my first con at Otakon 2013 (its 20th anniversary!). In my last college summer of 2015, I also watched Toradora, which made me realize that I liked romances, so I expanded my tastes even more, probably doubling the things I tried to that point.
I started actively using MAL around then (though I switched to Anilist when MAL crashed). Not long after that, I got into more manga and light novels.
Anyway, overall, I love the hobby. It's helped me cope in difficult times, and I met a lot of friends through it, so I'll probably always have a certain fondness for it in my heart.
About my lists and ratings:
Spoiler, click to viewclick to hide
- usually, 70 and higher is good. 50 is average, and 60 is mildly above average with 65 on borderline of above-average to good. I almost never give 100s.
- also, even if a show is only a 70, it may still be a personal favorite because it clicked in a certain way or I identified strongly with something in it, etc.
- things I dislike will usually get a 40 or below for me. Doesn't mean it's necessarily bad but just not for me.
- as mentioned above, some of this is out of date since I haven't edited some stuff since I was young, and my tastes have changed.
- Paused is stuff I'm waiting to build up before binging or the author themself put it on hiatus or some other reason.
- Fave OPs and other such lists is favorite opening songs and such.
- I try to give things 3 eps/3 ch before dropping if possible, but sometimes, if I feel it really won't click, I'll do less. Sometimes, I'm uncertain and will instead do more before dropping.
- Rewatches are estimated as I often skim when rewatching. I also sometimes skim or skip filler/unpleasant scenes like ones with heavy gore, so my list technically isn't fully accurate. But for the most part, it should be.Top 50 Anime (as of August 2025) (very rough list as my opinions can vary day-by-day)
