He then later joins the Public Safety Division who are devil hunters and are tasked with killing rogue devils, the main being the Gun Devil. Denji meets and forms friendships with many characters who have their own unique personalities and thus begins the story of Chainsaw Man. The plot of Chainsaw man is strong, quite strong in fact. We have a gripping narratively driven story and motive. The cast of characters that support this journey are interesting and provide more life to the world and the action squences are very well choreographed all the way up until the climatic end of the first part. Chainsaw Man's plot is one that has a robust layout with misdirection meant to throw the reader off and continously keep them guessing with whats going to take place next. The Chainsaw Man Fans have it set in them thinking he is an amazing protagonist, when you could replace any incel character with him and give them chainsaw arms and legs and it'll be pretty much the same. Denji's main motive is to get pussy or be a simp for one. His mindset doesn't improve one bit throughout the whole part 1 and leaning into part 2 he still acts the same way. I am not against him trying to get bitches but the way he goes about it is so lame. He can be funny most times and this is shown in some scenarios but calling Denji a __"Solid Protagonist"__ does not come anywhere close. Jokes aside, Power is a very well written character she's funny, goofy and likeable in the dumb and questionable stuff she does. She mostly shines with her relationship with Denji, from at first berating and even trying to harm him to slowly becoming close friends and caring for him. You can write an edgy character without making them cringe like. But here Aki just comes off as super edgy and it doesn't work. Like you could drop litter and he would give you a 1hr lecture on why you shouldn't drop litter. His character does get better in the second half of part 1 and he does become less edgy and more involved in with his peers and forms a bond with them and this continues up until the end. So he did become somewhat likeable in the end but that inital impression was just really off putting. __Makima__ ~~~img(https://media3.giphy.com/media/VVzkrBolPZkfmszgBW/giphy.gif?cid=790b7611bdb8a10d4386dbdf0a33e5daa7ea35d314aa8faa&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)~~~ Apart from Makima having a very nice ass :D She is a very well written antagonist. She doesn't come off as an antagonist at first but has this mysterious vibe surrounding her and makes you question her motives. Her subtle ways of deceiving you into thinking that she is on your side makes her stand out amongst the rest of the other characters. I pretty much new about 38 chapters before that she was the antagonist of the story, as I've read tons of novels and stories to guage a hidden antagonist. For some people they didn't know she was until the point it was revealed. My issue with the side characters is that they are not dived into any more detail as the main cast. Your supporting cast needs to be as strong as your main cast and here the supporting, though quite extensive just doesn't get that same treatment as the main cast. ~~~img(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/BackWideInganue-size_restricted.gif)~~~ There needed to be more depth to them than just being in the scene because the plot was heading in their direction it felt like they just happened to be there instead of it working for them to be there. There is Plot, Characters, Pacing, Narrative Direction, Art Style, Foreshadowing, Character development, Imagery, Twists, Satisfying endings etc... Class President reveals herself to be a devil and kills Asa, who seconds before her death pledges a contract with the War Devil granting her strength and power.
