a movie that makes you feel like you're sleeping is a good movie - mamoru oshii
aspiring(?) anime person;
cel fetishist, tome kino enthusiast, 青春 merchant, nostalgia blinded,
probably more sentimental than most,
i really like that dreamy feeling...

96-06 lost decade cinema
works made between 1996 and 2006, reckoning both audiovisually and thematically with dissociation and marginalization from society at large, a disconnect from Japan's ingrained social and cultural constraints (especially those established/perpetuated by the preceding generation, aka parents of the lost decade victims), strong pessimism towards the future while rapidly digitalizing communication through increasingly accessible internet & technology, and general malaise from lingering (socio-)economic stagnation. though the Lost Decade(s) persist and their socioeconomic ramifications continue -- and some works on the list may not seem relevant -- the list is an attempt to capture a period in time wherein such themes were expressed more prominently and/or specifically within anime.
09-14 cicada new wave
works that continue to audiovisually and thematically capture the emotional ramifications of the continuing Lost Decades, by widely incorporating additional forms of escapism -- particularly that of transposing oneself into videogame worlds -- and reflecting contemporary technological evolutions within the anime industry itself, namely the change towards increasingly digital production pipelines. these works often are digitally textured and have a different 'feel' from the first Lost Decade cinema wave, as works now fully and (sub)consciously reflect a society and economy in decline.
00s spiritual journey thru the peak and pinnacle
a list attempting to encapsulate the successful and admirable projects of the 00s, wherein ambitious auteurs got to work passionately in functional (over)ambitious studio systems where they got to make relatively strange projects in the wake of Evangelion's success. with the incorporation of new technology as well, the 00s in anime represent for me an intermittent period of hopes and dreams being realized by some of the medium's greatest heroes
10s-xx post-collapse ruins
as many ambitious studio systems collapsed in the early- to mid-10s because of their ambitious yet unprofitable works, and explosive increasein production demand strained a scattered industry well beyond its capacity from the mid- to late-10s onwards, many crucial foundations of the production pipeline suffered, leading to an increase of risk-averse projects and decrease in overall quality. this list is an attempt at capturing the works that perservered these predicaments with powerful (in-studio) productions, strong/ambitious project management, and/or are ambitious works that go against the grain of the industry
20s-xx I still love anime
despite my cynicism towards the current state of anime, I still believe the industry is full of admirable, spirited creatives who continue to push boundaries and make stellar work within their means. this list contains series who either holistically or just for some episode(s) are admirable, inspirational, reminds me that we're always moving forward, and continues to fuel my hopes and dreams for this medium I hold dear
'bad' anime that i like
list of works I find worthwhile despite what their maligned reputations and/or low scores on anime aggregation sites suggest
(fallen)angelcore
list of works that audiovisually and/or thematically inspire the thoughts of angels / heavenly supernatural beings / figures bridging the gap between the earthly and divine realm
mid-20s post-emo lesbian who likes cats
descriptive title, but just the type of work I imagine would be on the favorites lists of an anilist user that is a mid-20s lesbian who used to be emo in high school/college and likes cats
new auteur wave
list of works both in television and indie productions that reflect the medium's new generation of auteurs, e.g. directors and animators with very strong, notable styles and traits that can be seen through their entire filmography
compositing
works whose compositing I find aspirational
mikuwatch
list of Hatsune Miku songs, work in progress, watched with @birderdimvar
