When to use
Manga
Japanese comic, serialised or collected.
Manhwa
Korean comic — usually read left-to-right when digital, often vertical-scroll webtoon.
Manhua
Chinese-language comic.
Novel
Prose work. Use Light Novel if it's illustrated, formatted as a light novel, and published in light-novel imprints.
One-shot
A single, self-contained chapter that wasn't part of an ongoing serialisation.
Doujin
Self-published work outside the major publisher pipeline.
Status
Not yet released — announced, hasn't published its first chapter.
Releasing — chapters are coming out.
Finished — completed, with a final chapter / volume marked by the publisher.
Hiatus — confirmed pause with no current schedule.
Cancelled — publication officially stopped before completion.
Counts
Chapter count — released chapters. For ongoing serialisations this updates as chapters publish.
Volume count — released collected volumes. May lag the chapter count.
One-shots have 1 chapter, 0 volumes.
Reading direction
Right-to-left for traditional Japanese manga.
Left-to-right for manhwa, manhua (most cases), and webtoons.
The original-publication direction wins, not the localised version's direction.
Serialization
Magazine — where it was originally serialised (e.g. Weekly Shōnen Jump). Use the official magazine name in its original form, with a romanised version in alt titles.
For web-first serials, put the platform (e.g. Naver Webtoon, ComicWalker) here.
Source material
Most manga are original. Use the source field only when the manga is itself an adaptation:
Light Novel, Web Novel, Game, Visual Novel, Music, Other, Original.
Country of origin
The production country, not the language. A Korean studio publishing Japanese-language manga is still KR.
Author and Artist
Separate fields. They may be the same person (very common for solo creators); when they are, fill both with the same name.
Use the credit on the original publication, not the localised translation team.
