These rules apply to every submission. The entity-specific pages in this section (Images, Characters, Staff, etc.) extend these — they don't replace them.
Romanisation
Japanese → Modified Hepburn. Long vowels with a macron (ō, ū) in formal titles; double-o / double-u for stylised official romanisations (e.g. official "Tokyo" not "Tōkyō" for places). When an official romanisation exists (publisher-provided), it wins over phonetic correctness.
Korean → Revised Romanisation of Korean.
Mandarin → Hanyu Pinyin.
Other → ISO standard for the language; if none exists, follow the publisher's romanisation.
Casing
English / romaji titles: Title Case — capitalise every word except short prepositions ("a", "an", "the", "of", "in", "on", "and", "but", "or"). Always capitalise the first and last word.
Native titles: preserve source casing exactly as released by the publisher.
Alternative titles: same rule as native — preserve source.
Dates
Use the original air country's date, not your local date.
Date format in fields: YYYY-MM-DD. Display formatting is handled by the site.
For ongoing series, set status to Releasing and leave end-date null until the actual finish.
Episode / chapter counts
Use the released count, not the planned/announced count.
For ongoing series, the count updates as episodes/chapters release.
Recap episodes count toward the total unless the official release explicitly skips them.
Spoilers
Synopses should be marketing-grade — no plot beats past the first arc / first volume.
Anything that would surprise a viewer/reader at the natural reveal point is a spoiler.
Tag spoiler-status on tags accordingly (a spoiler tag must be marked as such).
Duplicates
Search before submitting. The same series can exist under romanised, English, and native titles.
If you find a duplicate, submit a merge request rather than editing one and leaving the other.
Languages
Native fields hold the source-language original.
English fields hold the official English release title when one exists, not a fan translation.
Synopses in multiple languages are welcome, but mark each one with its language code.
Source-of-truth precedence
When two official sources conflict (e.g. studio site says one episode count, distributor says another):
Most recent official source wins for ongoing details (status, count).
Publisher wins for naming and credit attribution.
The work itself wins over both for what's visibly in the work (titles in opening credits, character names spelled in subs).
Document the conflict in your submission so the moderator can verify.
Style
No marketing fluff in editorial fields ("the ultimate masterpiece", "everyone's favourite") — those are review territory.
No personal pronouns in synopses.
Trim trailing whitespace; one space after a period; no double-newlines inside a paragraph.
When in doubt
Ask in Channels before submitting. A 30-second clarification beats a rejected submission cycle.
